Occupational Therapy is intended to develop function and rehabilitate the mind and upper body so patients can resume a normal life.
A specially trained Occupational Therapist (OT) will conduct the evaluation. Several skill measures will be administered during the evaluation, both physical and mental processing skills will be assessed. The test is called the Motor-Free Visual Perception Test (4th ed). MVPT-4 is an individually administered assessment of visual-perceptual skills commonly used in everyday activities. The MVPT is one of the most popular visual-perceptual assessments in occupational therapy and driver rehabilitation in the United States and Canada.
The typical evaluation is scheduled for 1.5 hours and follow-up visits are scheduled with the OT if specific therapy is indicated. We provide details about your unique challenges.
Since this assessment is conducted by a licensed OT, Medicare and most other insurances will cover the cost of this evaluation. You would be responsible for any copays or deductibles just like any other medical visit.
No. This is considered a confidential medical evaluation. We will only share results with the referring physician and any other persons you designate. This can include your primary care physician and/or a family member to talk about how to maintain your fitness to drive.
The evaluation determines if there are deficits that pose a risk to safe driving. We will recommend a private road test if indicated and offer a referral for this. Ultimately, the decision to stop driving is made by you and your physician.
