Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy
Physical Therapists (PT’s) are highly trained health care professionals who have college degrees and advanced physical therapy education with a NC license to practice as a PT. Patients consult with PT’s for the treatment of medical problems that cause pain, limit mobility, or prevent the performance of daily activities.
PT’s evaluate individuals, diagnose conditions, and develop treatment strategies to reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability. PT’s help restore function through a variety of exercises, hands-on techniques, and home programs that may return you to an active lifestyle.
We send reports to your doctor so we can all work to make you feel better.
Allied Rehab PT’s offer specialized training and treatment techniques for patients ranging from the developmentally delayed newborn to the “athlete” of any age.

VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION THERAPY
Allied Rehab offers a comprehensive Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy (VRT) program to treat patients with peripheral vestibular disorders. We conduct a vestibular physical therapy evaluation to assess balance and oculomotor function, as well as ROM and strength limitations, to determine an appropriate treatment plan and provide a baseline to track improvements in vestibular function.
Patients appropriate for treatment include those with diagnoses of BPPV, Meniere’s Disease, Labyrithitis & Vestibular Neutritis, Ototoxicity, Pediatric Vestibular Disorders, Cervical Vertigo, Secondary Endolymphatic Hydrops, and Mal de Debarquement.
BPPV patients are treated with Canalith Repositioning Therapy (CRT), e.g., Epley’s or Semont-Liberatory Maneuvers. Alternatively, patients may be instructed in Brand-Daroff exercises as indicated.
Patients with peripheral disorders are instructed in exercises to increase adaptation of the vestibular system (X1 and X2 viewing), as well as balance retraining therapy.
Patients with bilateral disorders are instructed in exercises to promote substitution of visual and somatosensory information, as well as balance retraining therapy.
Treatment is progressed as tolerated, under close supervision, to increase safety and function. Our overall treatment goals are to decrease vertigo while increasing balance function and general activity levels. Specific treatment goals are to improve visual following when the head is stationary, gaze stability during head movement, visual-vestibular interactions during head movement, and balance in stance and during ambulation.
We look forward to treating your vestibular patients and helping them progress toward safer, more normal activity levels!
Sincerely,
Pam Schulze, PT, MEd
"Physical Therapy is intended to restore function and to reduce pain following an injury or surgery so patients can resume a normal life.
We work with physicians, schools, parents, caregivers, and most importantly the patient. We provide written reports, as directed by our patients, to insurance companies, attorneys, and physicians."
